A question path · Provider ↔ Consumer

The consumer can reinterpret Memory however it wishes. Can it?

Interpretation is unavoidable; invention should not be hidden inside it.

A consumer must make sense of evidence

A persona cannot simply recite every retrieved memory. It selects, connects and interprets. That work is what lets an earlier exchange inform a new question. If all interpretation were forbidden, memory would be an archive that never helps someone think.

But freedom to interpret is not freedom to replace a source's status or owner. A private reflection by one persona should not become a shared fact about another. A proposal for tomorrow should not become yesterday's completed action because the story reads more smoothly that way.

Meaning has constraints

Imagine Jim saying that a sculpture's long curves interest him, then later describing why a particular photograph matters to him. A consumer may notice that both concern movement through an image. It should not announce that Jim dislikes all flat art. The larger pattern is an inference; the two statements remain the evidence.

PHS's M16B design keeps ownership, purpose and status with admitted memory. The Memory-Engram specification describes a governed interpretive record whose original source remains reconstructable. It does not demand a new capsule for every tentative inference. M16F warns that model repetition creates no independent evidence. Judgment is still needed in a live reading.

Pause here: Which part of this conclusion is in the source, and which part did the consumer infer?

Make reinterpretation visible and correctable

A consumer can label a revisable inference in its reply and leave room for a person to say that is not what I meant. If it persists an interpretation in Memory, the record needs lineage to sources available to an authorized reviewer, not a public link to private material. Preserve conflicting records, and let later correction reach any derived account.

Interpretation can be creative without being lawless. It is strongest when the original voice remains audible beside it. The person whose memory is involved should have a path to contest a reading that has traveled too far.

My answer: A consumer may interpret memory for a purpose, but it must preserve provenance, ownership, status and uncertainty, and label inferences so they can be challenged.

Examples and the red guide’s dialogue are imagined. These project documents and patent pages describe designs or claims; they do not establish that every mechanism is deployed or effective.

Interpretive conclusions are Virgil’s and remain open to critique. The full internal documents are not hosted here; follow a source title for a public summary and its limits.
